Annapolis, MD – In a significant operation early on January 9, the Annapolis Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit, backed by the Special Enforcement Action Team (SEAT), executed a search and seizure warrant at a location suspected of being a stash house for illegal firearms and narcotics. The operation took place in the 700 block of Newtowne Drive at 5:41 AM.
Detectives, through their investigative work, identified the residence as a hub for storing guns and drugs. The police entered the residence smoothly, without any reported incidents. Inside, they encountered 21-year-old Deontae Simms of Annapolis, emerging from a rear bedroom. Additionally, two juveniles were found in a front bedroom. All three individuals were detained for further questioning.
The search of the premises led to the discovery and confiscation of Controlled Drug Substances. Moreover, officers recovered two “ghost guns” – untraceable firearms that often escape standard registration and tracking due to their assembly from parts. The weapons seized included a loaded nine-millimeter pistol and a loaded rifle.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of the Annapolis Police Department in combatting the twin threats of illegal narcotics and unregistered firearms in the community. The use of ghost guns is particularly concerning due to their lack of traceability, posing significant challenges to law enforcement agencies.
