Drunken Goshen Man Responsible for Multiple Crashes, Including Mayor Headed to Prison

ORANGE COUNTY, NY – Matthew Labar, a 42-year-old Goshen resident, pled guilty to Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol (DWI) as a felony in Orange County Court.

The incident occurred on July 29, 2023, when Labar was seen intoxicated on Main Street in Warwick.

After attempting to drive away, resulting in multiple collisions and endangering Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard, Labar was subdued by a United States Park Police officer until Warwick Police took custody.

Labar’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.33%, significantly over the legal limit.

Under the plea agreement, Labar faces one to three years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for April 12. Mayor Newhard sustained minor injuries during the incident.
