16-Year-Old Wilmington Student Arrested for Gun Possession at School

WILMINGTON, DE – A 16-year-old student from Wilmington, Delaware, was arrested on Wednesday morning at The John Dickinson School for gun possession.

The Delaware State Police School Resource Officer, alerted by school staff at approximately 7:45 a.m., discovered a loaded magazine on the student after removing him from the classroom.

A subsequent search of the student’s backpack revealed an unloaded handgun. No threats were made towards anyone at the school, and classes continued normally.

The student, whose identity remains undisclosed due to his age, was taken to Troop 2. He faces several felony charges, including Possession of a Firearm in a Safe School Zone, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Under 18, Possession of Ammunition by a Person Under 18, and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.

Following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was committed to the Ferris School on a $12,000 cash bond.
