ALBANY, NEW YORK – Jonathan Woodworth, a 45-year-old from Riverside-Albert, New Brunswick, Canada, received a 12-year prison sentence for attempting to entice and coerce a 10-year-old child into sexual activity. This announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Woodworth, as acknowledged in his guilty plea, engaged in sexually explicit messaging from June 23 to September 28, 2022, with an individual he believed was the mother of a 10-year-old girl. His objective was to lure the child into sexual acts. On September 28, 2022, Woodworth traveled from New Brunswick to Rensselaer County, New York, intending to carry out these acts. He was apprehended upon exiting the Rensselaer train station.

In addition to his prison term, United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci ordered a 15-year supervised release following imprisonment. Woodworth must also register as a sex offender and could face deportation from the United States after his prison term.

The FBI Albany’s Child Exploitation Task Force led the investigation. This task force includes FBI agents and state and local police, such as the Colonie Police Department, Rotterdam Police Department, and the New York State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Alexander Wentworth-Ping and Ashlyn Miranda under Project Safe Childhood.
