WEST NYACK, NY — Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced the sentencing of Joseph Janulewicz, 65, of West Nyack, to 15 years in state prison following his guilty plea to first-degree Manslaughter in the homicide of Brian Romney.
The case unfolded when Brian Romney was reported missing on June 10, 2022, after he failed to arrive at a relative’s home and ceased communication on June 8, 2022. His vehicle was found in West Nyack near East Street on June 15, 2022. The New York State Police, aided by the Village of Greenwood Lake Police Department, conducted an extensive investigation leading to a search warrant at 35 East Street in West Nyack.
The search resulted in the grim discovery of Romney’s body, wrapped in a tarp in a storage room within Janulewicz’s residence, on June 16, 2022. Romney had suffered multiple stab wounds, and the Medical Examiner declared his death a homicide.
During his guilty plea on November 22, 2023, Janulewicz admitted to stabbing Romney multiple times, including a fatal wound to his back.
He also confessed to concealing the body in his residence until it was found by authorities.
