Toms River Adjusts Trash Pickup, Announces Road Treatment Ahead of Snowstorm

TOMS RIVER, NJ – In preparation for the anticipated snow event, the Toms River Township Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced an adjustment to its garbage and recycling collection schedule for Friday. Residents are advised to place their bins out by 5:30 a.m., as pickups will commence an hour earlier than usual.

This proactive measure is intended to ensure that all collections are completed before any significant snow accumulation. The change affects Thursday’s routes, which are being collected on Friday due to the MLK holiday. Regularly scheduled Friday collections will occur on Saturday.

In addition to the altered pickup schedule, the Toms River DPW is actively treating major township roads to mitigate the impact of the incoming snowstorm. For assistance with county and state roads, residents should contact the respective agencies.

The National Weather Service forecasts snow starting tonight, with a 30% chance of precipitation and less than half an inch of accumulation. Friday is expected to bring more snow, turning to a mix of rain and snow in the afternoon, and then back to snow by evening, with a total accumulation of 2 to 4 inches. Snowfall is likely to continue into Friday night, tapering off before 10 p.m. with an additional inch of accumulation possible. Temperatures will drop to around 12 degrees, accompanied by a northwest wind of 10 to 15 mph.

Residents are urged to stay informed and prepare accordingly for the winter weather conditions.
