JACKSON, NJ – The Jackson Township Open Space Committee convened for its first 2024 meeting with a clear agenda: to preserve more land. Mayor Michael Reina, along with Council President Jennifer Kuhn and Councilman Mordy Burnstein, outlined the committee’s plans to identify and protect open spaces within the township.

This six-member resident board, under Mayor Reina’s leadership, expressed commitment to continue the township’s efforts in safeguarding land from development. Mayor Reina emphasized the importance of the board’s recommendations in steering the administration and council towards key preservation decisions.

Councilwoman Kuhn, also a member of the Rova Farms Advisory Board, highlighted the recent acquisition of Rova Farms through the township’s open space fund. The project’s next phase involves transforming the area into a park for community enjoyment, setting a precedent for future preservation initiatives.

Councilman Burnstein revealed a collaboration with the Ocean County Commissioners and the Ocean County Natural Land Trust Fund. This partnership aims to identify and preserve lands in Jackson, reinforcing the township’s relationship with county officials to further conservation efforts in 2024 and beyond.

One of the recent highlights of the town’s open space purchases was when they bought the abandoned Rova Farms resort with plans to convert it into a lakeside park.
