Hey New York, Get Your Own Stuff, These Things Belong to New Jersey

NEW JERSEY – New York, known for its iconic landmarks and sports teams, has long been associated with several attractions and entities that are, surprisingly, situated in New Jersey. These include the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the home stadiums of the New York Giants and New York Jets.

Another thing New York claims ownership of is the New York Red Bulls, who play their home games in Harrison, New Jersey, just across the river from Newark.

It’s time New York comes clean with America and finally admits these five things are in New Jersey and not New York.

The Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom and democracy, is located on Liberty Island, which is geographically part of New Jersey. The same is true for Ellis Island, the historic gateway for millions of immigrants. Despite their strong association with New York, both of these landmarks are within New Jersey’s state lines.

In the world of sports, both the New York Giants and the New York Jets, renowned NFL teams, play their home games at MetLife Stadium. This stadium, contrary to what their names might suggest, is located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

These instances highlight the intertwined nature of the two states’ histories and the shared cultural and historical heritage that spans the New York-New Jersey border, but many in New Jersey firmly believe the New York Giants and New York Jets are nothing short of cultural appropriation by the Big Apple.

P.S. You can have the Nets.
