MARDELA SPRINGS, MD – A bomb threat targeting Mardela Middle and High School on January 10, 2024, led to a swift response from local authorities and the eventual confession of a Somerset County resident.
The incident at 24940 Delmar Rd, Mardela Springs, began when the school received multiple threats. The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office acted promptly, launching an investigation to locate the suspect. This involved tracing VOIP/IP numbers and led detectives to a resident in Somerset County, Maryland.
Upon confrontation, the suspect admitted to making the threats. They indicated that the aim was not to cause harm, but to excuse a friend from school for the day. The suspect’s cell phone has been seized, pending a search and seizure warrant.
Law enforcement assured that while the incident was disruptive, it did not pose a significant risk to public safety. Measures were taken to protect students and staff at the school. Charges are currently being prepared as detectives finalize their investigation.
