MOORESTOWN, NJ – Rep. Andy Kim, who has leveraging his image of picking up trash inside the Capitol after the January 6, 2021, events, has raised substantial funds for his Senate bid. Kim, who gained national attention for this act, is centering his campaign on restoring public trust in government, a sentiment that has significantly declined in recent times.
“After the photo of me cleaning the Capitol went viral, people kept saying to me the phrase “Look For The Helpers.” I grew up with Mister Rogers and felt comfort in those words. But now, 3 yrs after Jan 6, I have come to learn an entirely different lesson from this phrase,” Kim said.
Kim’s fundraising efforts have been notable. Since announcing his bid for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey, he has amassed $2.75 million, with $1.75 million raised in the fourth quarter of 2023 alone. Currently, he boasts an impressive $2.6 million in cash-on-hand as he aims to secure the seat of the indicted incumbent, Bob Menendez.
“This photo is 1st night I got home to my family after Jan 6. My 5 yr old asked me how I was doing and if something bad happened at work. My wife and I hadn’t told them anything yet but he must have heard something at school. So I turned to Mister Rogers: Look for the Helpers,” he added.
Reflecting on his campaign, Kim expressed optimism about the momentum he has garnered. “We are in a really strong place coming into the on-year,” he remarked, underscoring his positive outlook.
A three-term congressman and former Obama White House official, Kim’s political experience and national recognition, particularly his actions following the January 6 incident, play a pivotal role in his fundraising strategy and campaign narrative. This approach appears to resonate with his supporters, contributing significantly to his financial success in the early stages of his Senate campaign.
