Newark High School Receives Hoax Threat, Prompting Swift Police Response

NEWARK, DE — On Thursday, January 4, at approximately 1:10 P.M., Newark Police were alerted to a potential threat at Newark High School. A caller claimed they were outside the school, intending to enter and shoot students and staff members.

Newark Police School Resource Officers and Christina School District Constables, already on site, responded immediately, along with additional Newark Police patrol officers. They quickly ascertained that no shooting or violent acts were occurring at the school.

Early investigations suggested the incident was a hoax, commonly known as “swatting,” posing no real threat to students, staff, or the school. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit have taken over the investigation, and officers remained on campus to ensure a safe dismissal of students at day’s end.
