LAUREL, DE – Delaware State Police arrested Aiyanna Winstead, a 21-year-old woman from Laurel, Delaware, on charges related to a hate crime that occurred at Taco Chabelita on Sussex Highway.
The incident unfolded on Friday, December 29, 2023, at approximately 6:59 PM. Winstead placed a food order over the phone. Later, a 43-year-old family member of Winstead went to pick up the order and became disorderly with the staff regarding the order. After being asked to leave several times, she eventually departed the premises.
Shortly after, Winstead called the restaurant, arguing about the order, and during the call, she made racial statements towards the staff. She also threatened to shoot them and blow up the restaurant.
Responding to a call about the disorderly incident, troopers arrived at the restaurant on Saturday, December 30, at approximately 1:03 PM. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Winstead and the involved family member on Sunday, December 31. Both individuals were taken into custody and transported to Troop 5, where they faced multiple charges.
