TRENTON, NJ – California and New Jersey are among the top three states with the highest unemployment rates in America, even as the rest of the nation is seeing a decline in unemployment.
Despite an increase in nonfarm employment, New Jersey’s unemployment rate rose to 4.7% in November, placing it as the third highest in the United States. This information comes from preliminary estimates by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In contrast to the nationwide trend, where the unemployment rate edged down to 3.7% with an addition of 199,000 jobs in key sectors like health care and government, New Jersey’s labor market shows mixed signals. The state experienced a growth of 4,100 jobs in November, including 3,100 in the private sector. Yet, the unemployment rate saw an uptick of 0.1 percent.
California and Nevada surpass New Jersey’s rate, recording 4.9% and 5.4% respectively. The data reflects the dynamic and complex nature of employment trends across the country, with New Jersey facing unique challenges in its economic recovery efforts.
