TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River Police Department patrol officer, while managing traffic at an accident scene on Route 9 near Stevens Road, was hit by a vehicle. The incident occurred Friday night.

The driver of the vehicle, reportedly a family member heading to the initial accident, struck the officer. Emergency services quickly responded, transporting the injured officer to Brick Hospital. Fortunately, the officer sustained only minor injuries.

The circumstances leading to the initial accident on Route 9 are still under investigation.
