Emergency Teams Retrieve Man’s Body from Sunken Car in Anacostia River

WASHINGTON, DC – A man was found deceased in a vehicle submerged in the Anacostia River, prompting an investigation by the Washington, D.C. Metro Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.

The incident occurred on Monday, around 1:24 p.m. when a passerby reported seeing a vehicle in the Anacostia River near Anacostia Drive and the 11th Street Bridge. Investigators determined that a silver 2011 Chevy Tahoe, heading north on Anacostia Drive SE, veered off the road and into the river under unclear circumstances.

Rescue teams from the MPD Harbor Patrol Unit and DC Fire Rescue Dive Team were dispatched to the location. They retrieved a man from the submerged vehicle. Despite attempts at resuscitation, he was declared deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Michael Jerome Dennis, 38, from Southeast, D.C.
