EVESHAM, NJ – The Evesham Police Department has concluded an internal affairs investigation concerning an allegation made by James Newhouse, 42, of Marlton, who claimed to have been physically assaulted by an officer during a 911 service call.

On August 3, 2023, officers responded to a call on the first block of Lakeside Drive. Following this, Mr. Newhouse reported an officer physically assaulted him, causing injury. The Evesham Police Department conducted a thorough internal investigation, including reviewing body-worn camera (BWC) footage, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing investigative reports.

The investigation determined that Mr. Newhouse’s claim was false. The BWC footage showed the entire interaction with Mr. Newhouse, specifically during the timeframe he alleged the assault occurred. The footage revealed that at no point did an Evesham Police Officer assault Mr. Newhouse.

On November 30, 2023, Mr. Newhouse was charged with Filing a False Police Report, following a probable cause finding by Municipal Court Judge Karen Caplan. The case is now closed, pending Mr. Newhouse’s first appearance in Burlington County Superior Court.

The Evesham Police Department emphasized its commitment to integrity and transparency, urging the public to report any wrongdoing by its officers. All complaints are investigated in accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Internal Affairs policy, underscoring the department’s dedication to maintaining high professional standards and public trust.
