Ex-Girlfriend Tried to Set Sleeping Man, Baby, New Girlfriend on Fire

A 20-year-old woman, Derica B. Wiggins, faces multiple felony charges following her arrest on Friday. She is accused of trying to set fire to her ex-boyfriend’s bed while he, his new girlfriend, and her baby were asleep.

Court records reveals Wiggins was charged with aggravated arson, setting fire to another’s personal property, reckless burning, and two counts of aggravated assault.

Details from a probable cause affidavit, obtained by WREG-TV, a Memphis CBS affiliate, shed light on the incident. On the night of March 1, 2023, police and firefighters responded to a 911 emergency call about a fire in a residence on the 6100 block of Park Grove. First responders reported that the fire was extinguished quickly after ignition. The man, woman, and baby involved in the incident fortunately escaped unharmed.

The identities of the three victims have not been disclosed by authorities.
