BRONX, NY – Christopher Martinez, a 20-year-old resident of the Bronx, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a woman at knifepoint in Saint Mary’s Park.

The sentencing, pronounced on Tuesday, also includes 20 years of post-release supervision. Martinez had pleaded guilty to first-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act on November 6.

The attack occurred on May 31, 2022, in broad daylight. Martinez, after lying in wait near the victim’s home, robbed and then assaulted her in the park.

The victim’s son played a crucial role in Martinez’s apprehension, alerting the police after noticing his mother’s prolonged absence.

The DNA evidence from the scene was instrumental in securing Martinez’s conviction.
