NEW YORK, NY – An NYPD officer was arrested on Thursday night, charged with child endangerment and assault. The arrest took place within the 113th Precinct.
Maurice Pennant, 39, an off-duty police officer, faced arrest at approximately 10:46 PM. Pennant’s charges include endangering the welfare of a child and assault. The details of the incident leading to the arrest remain under investigation.
According to NYPD records, Pennant has served in the school safety division since October. He started his career in July of 2011 and earns $133,000 per year. He was involved in a 2018 excessive force lawsuit. The plaintiff claimed he was leaving a family’s NYCHA building when Pennant and other officers, responding to a different incident, stopped and tackled him, handcuffed him, and assaulted him.
The lawsuit alleged the plaintiff was brought to the hospital and then charged with false charges that were later dismissed. That lawsuit was settled for $5,000 according to court records.
On May 17, he was disciplined by the NYPD for violating patrol rules.
The NYPD has not provided further details on the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
