Bomb Scare at Shir Ami Synagogue Leads to Evacuation and Investigation

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA – The Newtown Police Department responded to a bomb threat at the Shir Ami Synagogue on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

Following an email threat received at 12:05 p.m., the Synagogue made the decision to evacuate children from the school as a precaution.

The Newtown Police and Emergency Services conducted a thorough search of the premises with the assistance of ordinance K9 units.

The search yielded no dangerous materials. Meanwhile, children were safely relocated to an alternate location.

The investigation into this incident is being coordinated with the FBI, as similar threats have been reported in other parts of the state. The public is asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1.
