LOWER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP, PA – The Lower Gwynedd Township Police Department reports a significant rise in package thefts across the country during the holiday season.
Thieves, including organized crime rings, are following delivery trucks and stealing packages from residences, sometimes before homeowners are aware of the delivery.
In response, the Police Department is intensifying patrols to deter these thefts. They also offer several recommendations to safeguard packages.
Residents are asked to ship packages to secure locations like lockers or local stores. Delivery instructions can be specified for shippers, and for valuable items, requiring a signature upon delivery is advised. Additionally, homeowners are investing in package drop boxes and lockers for added security.
To further protect deliveries, a temporary hold can be placed on packages during absences. Upgrading home surveillance systems is also recommended. These measures have already assisted in providing crucial information leading to arrests and the recovery of stolen items.
