Baldwin Man Receives 25-to-Life Sentence for 2019 Fatal Gas Station Hit-and-Run

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced the sentencing of Joshua Roston, a 38-year-old Baldwin man, to 25 years to life in prison.

The sentence follows Roston’s conviction for the 2019 hit-and-run death of a gas station worker, Cemal Dagdeviren.

Convicted by a jury on October 27, Roston faced charges including Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Robbery in the First Degree, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Robbery in the Third Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, and three counts of Petit Larceny.

The incident occurred on January 14, 2019, at the Pit Stop gas station in North Baldwin.

Roston, after having his tank filled with $22 worth of gas, ran over Dagdeviren during an altercation over payment. Dagdeviren was subsequently dragged beneath Roston’s SUV, leading to his death.
