NYPD Officer Charged in Domestic Violence Case

PATERSON, NJ – Hariton Marachilian, an officer with the New York Police Department, has been arrested for his involvement in a domestic violence incident that occurred in Paterson, on December 10, 2022. Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced the arrest, which took place on December 1.

Marachilian faces multiple charges, including First Degree Kidnapping, two counts of Second-Degree Aggravated Assault, Third Degree Criminal Restraint, and Third Degree Criminal Coercion.

He is accused of kidnapping and seriously injuring a female victim. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.

If convicted, Marachilian could face 15-30 years in New Jersey State Prison for the First Degree Kidnapping charge, with a mandatory 85% of the term to be served before parole eligibility under the No Early Release Act. This is in addition to 5 years of parole supervision upon release.

The Second Degree Aggravated Assault charges carry a potential sentence of 5-10 years each, and the Third Degree charges could result in 3-5 years in prison for each count.
