Colorado Parolee Kills Iraq War Veteran, Father of Two

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Detra Farries, a Colorado woman paroled in 2021 for a fatal 2011 incident involving a tow-truck driver, has been arrested again. This time, she faces assault and harassment charges following an alleged attack on her live-in boyfriend.

Authorities detained Farries at the El Paso County Jail after the reported incident on Nov. 5. According to a KOAA report, the altercation began when Farries confronted her boyfriend over suspicions of infidelity. The confrontation escalated, leading to Farries allegedly spitting in his face and striking him with a broom multiple times. The extent of the boyfriend’s injuries remains unclear.

Farries’ history includes a controversial case where she was convicted for manslaughter and vehicular homicide. In 2011, tow-truck driver Allen Rose, a father of two and Iraq War veteran, was tragically killed after being dragged over a mile while attempting to tow Farries’ SUV.

She served nine years of a 20-year sentence, with her case attracting significant attention through her many appeals.

The Colorado Parole Board’s decision to parole Farries in 2021 was met with mixed reactions. The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office expressed disagreement with the parole decision, citing the severity of the previous crime. Farries’ family, however, welcomed her release, emphasizing her time served and their eagerness for her to rebuild her life.
