PHILADELPHIA, PA – On Tuesday, Tyrone Garcell Tunnell has been charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, and related offenses by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Homicide/Non-Fatal Shootings Unit. The charges stem from an attack on two security guards at the Macy’s in Center City on Monday.
Philadelphia Police Homicide detectives, reviewing surveillance footage, report that Tunnell attempted to steal items from Macy’s, was confronted by staff, and subsequently left. Minutes later, he returned and assaulted the guards with a knife, without provocation.
Eric Harrison, 27, was fatally stabbed in the neck and pronounced dead at Jefferson Hospital. The second guard, 23, is recovering from facial and arm injuries.
Tunnell fled but was apprehended by SEPTA Transit Police, who tracked him using surveillance video. The knife used in the assault was also recovered.
The District Attorney’s Office has additionally charged Tunnell with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, Tampering with Evidence, and Retail Theft.
