DA Validates Cop's Justified Use of Force in Northampton Township Police Shooting

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA – District Attorney Matt Weintraub has declared the Tuesday, officer-involved shooting of Mark Chambers, 40, in Northampton Township as justified.

The incident occurred in the Holland section on Elm Avenue, where Chambers, armed with a knife, confronted the responding officers.

The officers had arrived following a 911 call reporting Chambers as suicidal and armed. Body camera footage revealed that within 35 seconds of their arrival, Chambers ignored 18 verbal commands to drop his knife, subsequently charging at the officers with the weapon.

The officers, believing their lives were in imminent danger, discharged their firearms, fatally wounding Chambers.

An autopsy confirmed that Chambers died from multiple gunshot wounds. The collected evidence at the scene included a 12-inch knife.
