LAUREL, MD – In a coordinated effort by the Western District and the Criminal Investigation Auto Theft Task Force, a 15-year-old male from District Heights, Maryland, was apprehended on Wednesday, following a series of events involving a stolen vehicle and gunfire.
The incident began around 11:00 p.m. when detectives, during an auto theft initiative, located a stolen black 2018 Kia Optima in Laurel. This vehicle was previously involved in a non-contact shooting in Gambrills on November 28.
As detectives monitored the vehicle, it moved to the area of Greenbelt Road and Goodluck Road in Greenbelt.
An occupant fired a weapon from the vehicle, although no injuries were reported. The pursuit continued into the District of Columbia, where the vehicle collided with a parked car on Hansberry Court near Baldwin Crescent in N.E. DC. Several suspects fled the scene.
The Prince George’s County Police helicopter, assisting in the operation, observed one fleeing suspect, leading to his capture. A weapon was also recovered from the scene. The DC Metropolitan Police have taken custody of the juvenile suspect, with criminal charges pending as the investigation continues.
