EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to a disturbance call in the early hours yesterday, leading to the arrest of Joseph Dill. The incident occurred at around 3:37 AM in the 4000 block of Tremont Avenue.
A woman reported a male, later identified as Dill, breaking her porch lights and attempting to enter her residence by kicking the front door. She further stated that Dill left her residence and began firing a firearm from across the street, prompting her to request police intervention.
Officers, accompanied by members of the Atlantic County SWAT team, arrived at Dill’s residence at 4091 Tremont Avenue. Dill, who was inside his home, initially remained uncooperative with law enforcement. After a 12-hour standoff, Dill exited his residence and was taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries reported among officers or civilians.
During the operation, Tremont Avenue, Bates Avenue, and nearby streets were closed for safety. Following a court order, multiple firearms were seized from Dill’s residence.
Dill faces charges of Attempted Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Harassment. He was released on summonses pertaining to this case but was detained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on a separate outstanding criminal warrant. This incident highlights the effective response and resolution by the Egg Harbor Township Police and SWAT team in managing a potentially volatile situation.
