FREDERICK, MD – Corporal Sara Leishear and Officer Hailey Leishear of the Frederick Police Department were honored with the Life Saving Award for their prompt and decisive actions in a crisis situation. The married couple, often mistaken for sisters, showcased exemplary teamwork and professional skill in a critical moment.

On October 30th, Corporal Sara Leishear, assigned to the Crisis Car along with colleagues from Frederick County Fire & Rescue and Sheppard Pratt, responded to a distress call from a group home. A young person was attempting suicide by strangulation with a belt. Officer Hailey Leishear, among other patrol officers, arrived as backup due to the serious nature of the call.

Together, the Leishears managed to restrain the individual and used crash shears to cut the belt, saving the person from imminent danger. Following the immediate intervention, Corporal Leishear employed de-escalation techniques while awaiting medical assessment from the co-responder team. The young person was then transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
