SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — In a tragic incident, 23-year-old Om Brahmbhatt was charged on Monday with the murders of his grandparents and uncle in their shared South Plainfield condominium.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at the condo located in the Traditions complex on Coppola Drive. Brahmbhatt, who was waiting for the police upon their arrival, has been charged with three counts of murder and various weapons offenses, as announced by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The criminal complaint indicates that Brahmbhatt purchased the gun used in the crime online. The 23-year-old is scheduled for a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a detention hearing planned for either Friday or December 5th. As of noon Tuesday, no attorney was listed for Brahmbhatt, according to a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.
The complaint details that Brahmbhatt fatally shot his 72-year-old grandparents, Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt, in the head while they slept. He then proceeded to shoot his uncle, Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, multiple times in another bedroom. Upon the police’s arrival, Brahmbhatt indicated his involvement by stating, “it might be me.” Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt were pronounced dead at the scene, while Yashkumar Brahmbhatt succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
