New York City is touted as one of the most progressive cities in America, yet there is so much violent crime and hate crime throughout the once-tolerant city.

In response, Governor Kathleen Hochul is sending more state police to the city and others.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced today a $2.5 million investment to bolster the New York State Police’s presence in the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). This initiative, a response to recent hate crimes and harassment incidents, involves deploying an additional ten investigators in New York City, Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester.

The action follows the Hamas terror attacks and a subsequent rise in Antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents. Hochul emphasized the state’s commitment to protecting at-risk communities and condemning all forms of hate.

“Since October 7, when we first deployed the New York State Police to safeguard vulnerable communities, our focus on public safety has been unwavering,” Governor Hochul stated. “Enhancing resources for the JTTF is a crucial step in guarding New Yorkers against domestic and international threats.”

Lieutenant Governor Delgado echoed this sentiment, asserting the state’s dedication to eliminating hatred and discrimination. “New York’s diversity is a source of pride, and we are resolved to keep violence and extremism at bay,” Delgado said.

The funding will enhance the New York State Police’s capability to assist the JTTF in examining and investigating cases linked to New York. It also aims to strengthen the collaboration between the JTTF and the New York State Intelligence Center Counter-Terrorism Center, enhancing investigations into various forms of violent extremism and the spread of conspiracy theories and misinformation.
