NEW YORK CITY, NY – A 48-year-old man was fatally shot in a confrontation outside a Washington Heights bodega, the New York Police Department reported.
The incident occurred around 11:45 PM Thursday near Macombs Place and W. 152nd Street.
Surveillance footage shows the victim, wearing a yellow jacket, attempting to snatch a chain from another individual.
Following the theft, the chain owner retaliated by shooting the assailant in the back. The injured man collapsed on the sidewalk and was later pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital. His identity has not been released as the police are still notifying his family.
The NYPD is currently investigating the incident and searching for the shooter.
