INVERNESS, FL – A homicide investigation in Citrus County took a turn for police after Jonathan Dimick Senior, 75, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident unfolded on November 23, when the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a well-being check near Poe Street and Eden Drive in Inverness.Upon arrival, deputies discovered signs of a violent crime, including a knife, blood, and drag marks. This discovery corroborated the initial reports of a potential murder. Efforts to contact Dimick inside the residence led to deputies entering the home, where they found him unresponsive but alive, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his abdomen.Dimick received emergency medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The subsequent investigation led to the grisly discovery of 67-year-old James Banks’ dismembered body in the trunk of his car.Sheriff Mike Prendergast commented on the rarity and severity of the case in Citrus County, expressing sorrow over the inability to prosecute Dimick for the crime. He highlighted the importance of the caller’s information and the swift action of the CCSO in bringing some closure to the victim’s family.
