CUMBERLAND, MD – On Saturday, the Cumberland Police Department responded to an assault incident at UPMC Western Maryland Hospital.
Andrew James Clopper, 35, of Hagerstown, Maryland, was arrested following multiple violent confrontations.
Clopper, previously discharged from the hospital, was involved in an altercation with another patient in the parking lot.
According to witnesses, he attempted to take the victim’s dogs and assaulted him. Another incident reported Clopper trying to forcibly enter a woman’s vehicle, instilling fear for her life.
The victim of the physical assault sustained injuries consistent with the reported attack, including a laceration. Clopper resisted arrest, assaulting a police officer in the process. He faces multiple charges, including attempted robbery and second-degree assault, and is detained at the Allegany County Detention Center.
