MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced on Wednesday that Jesus Lugo Santana, a 51-year-old resident of Bayside, Queens, received a six to 12-year prison sentence for a drunk driving incident in March 2020.

Santana pleaded guilty on April 18, facing multiple charges including Aggravated Vehicular Assault and Driving While Intoxicated.

The incident occurred on March 20, 2020, around 8:24 p.m., when Santana, driving a black Nissan Murano on Northern Boulevard in Manhasset, collided head-on with a white Hyundai Sonata.

Traveling at approximately 71 miles per hour, over the 40-mph speed limit, Santana crossed the median, resulting in serious injuries to the four occupants of the Hyundai.

The victims were taken to Northwell Health, Long Island Jewish Medical Center with severe injuries, including broken bones and spinal injuries. One victim remains wheelchair-bound due to the severity of the injuries sustained. A nearly empty bottle of rum was found in Santana’s car post-crash.
