Montgomery County, MD — On November 13, Montgomery County Police arrested thirteen individuals in multiple incidents involving stolen or carjacked vehicles.
Around 12:29 p.m., a 3rd District officer spotted a Nissan Sentra and a Honda Accord, both taken in armed carjackings, near Georgia and Wayne Avenues. A pursuit ensued, ending with the Nissan crashing into a tree at Dennis and Douglas Avenues. The five occupants, including 18-year-old Samuel Fikru of Silver Spring and four minors, were apprehended. BB guns and a knife were recovered from the Nissan.
The Honda, found near Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, led to a brief lockdown at the school. A 15-year-old girl was apprehended while other suspects fled.
In a separate incident, an off-duty officer reported a stolen Kia Sedona near Paint Branch High School. The vehicle, with five young occupants, was later involved in a collision during a police chase. Two were apprehended, while three others escaped in a gray Infiniti.
The Infiniti returned to the Calverton area where all five occupants, including the three from the Kia, were arrested while observing the earlier arrest.
Samuel Fikru faces charges of armed carjacking and motor vehicle theft. The juveniles in the Nissan and Kia face various charges related to auto theft, while those in the Infiniti are charged with conspiracy to commit motor vehicle theft and other related offenses.
The 15-year-old girl involved in the Honda incident was released to her parents without charges.
