GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Gloucester Township Police Department is intensifying efforts to protect the elderly from the growing threats of “Elder Fraud” and “Tech Support Scams.” Recognizing the vulnerability of older citizens, the department is actively working to prevent them from becoming victims of these increasingly prevalent scams.

Elder fraud, a crime that cost the elderly billions annually, often targets grandparents and older individuals through phone calls, emails, and mailed letters. The Gloucester Township Police note that once victimized, the elderly may be repeatedly targeted due to their perceived vulnerability.

The department acknowledges the challenges faced by families, especially those living away from their elderly relatives, in safeguarding them from such scams. Traditional methods like issuing stern warnings or taking control of finances might not be effective and can lead to emotional distress.

To address this issue, the Gloucester Township Police Community Relations Bureau is offering assistance and guidance. They invite anyone seeking more information about elder fraud and other related scams to contact them at 856-228-4011 or via email at communityrelations@gtpolice.com. Their proactive approach aims to educate and empower both the elderly and their families in combating these fraudulent activities.
