Brooklyn Man Sentenced for Killing Passenger While Fleeing Police

BROOKLYN, NY — A Bath Beach resident received a prison sentence of 3 to 9 years after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter, announced the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. The conviction stems from a 2022 incident where the man crashed his vehicle while evading police, resulting in the death of a passenger.

Ackeem Chambers, 20, was sentenced by Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun for the crash on Eastern Parkway. The incident, which took place on February 6, 2022, involved Chambers driving a Hyundai Sonata with three passengers when NYPD officers attempted to stop the vehicle for erratic driving. Chambers fled, running a red light at the intersection with Rogers Avenue, and collided with a Toyota Solara.

The collision claimed the life of 18-year-old passenger Jada Rollins and caused severe head trauma to another 20-year-old passenger. A third passenger and the driver of the Toyota were also hospitalized. Chambers sustained minor injuries.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez underscored the severity of the outcome of Chambers’ actions, highlighting the commitment of his office to prosecuting vehicular violence to safeguard the community. Investigators concluded that Chambers was traveling at over 60 miles per hour without braking before the crash occurred.
