PETERSBURG, VA – A Virginia State Police special agent was wounded after a shooting incident on Thursday night in Petersburg. The agent, who was seated in an unmarked vehicle on Whitehill Drive, was targeted when a white SUV approached and the driver opened fire.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:48 p.m., leading to several shots being fired at the special agent’s vehicle.
A bullet shattered the rear window of the vehicle and grazed the special agent. Despite the gunfire, the agent was able to receive medical attention and was subsequently treated and released from the hospital.
At the time of the attack, the special agent was engaged in an active criminal investigation in the area. No return fire was reported by the special agent during the incident, and there have been no other injuries reported in connection with this event.
The identity of the special agent has been withheld, and the Virginia State Police have launched a full investigation into the shooting.
