Suspect in Deadly Walmart Shooting Arrested

ELYRIA, OH – A 19-year-old male suspect has been arrested following a shooting at the Elyria Walmart parking lot last Thursday.

The Elyria Police Department was called to the scene at 1000 Chestnut Commons at approximately 4:54 p.m. after reports of a man shot.

Nicholas Tubbs, a 21-year-old from Grafton, was critically injured in the incident and was swiftly transported to University Hospitals. Despite medical efforts, Tubbs succumbed to his injuries early Friday morning, as confirmed by Police Chief William Pelko.

The suspect, identified as Roosevelt Benton from Oberlin, was apprehended at his residence on Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of felonious assault. Following his arraignment on Friday morning, Benton’s bond was set at $1,000,000, and additional charges are anticipated.

Benton is expected to face the court again on November 9th, where further proceedings will take place regarding the shooting.
