Pennsylvania Nurse Faces New Charges in Insulin Overdose Cases

HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry announced new charges against Heather Pressdee, a 41-year-old nurse from western Pennsylvania, for the alleged mistreatment of 19 additional patients. Initially charged in May for three cases, Pressdee now faces accusations regarding incidents at five care facilities dating back to 2020.

The nurse is charged with administering excessive insulin to 19 patients, leading to 17 deaths. The new charges include two counts of first-degree murder, 17 counts of attempted murder, and 19 counts of neglect of a care-dependent person.

Pressdee, who managed care for patients during overnight shifts, allegedly took advantage of low staffing levels to administer the doses, resulting in fatalities among patients aged 43 to 104. Following her arraignment by Judge Maura Palumbi, Pressdee waived her preliminary hearing and is currently held without bail at Butler County Prison.

The facilities where the incidents occurred include Concordia at Rebecca Residence, Belair Healthcare and Rehabilitation (Guardian), Quality Life Services Chicora, Premier Armstrong Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Attorney General Henry expressed the gravity of the allegations and the intent of the Office of Attorney General to ensure justice for the victims and their families, emphasizing the trust placed in medical professionals to protect and not harm those in their care.
