OCEAN CITY, MD – The Ocean City Police Department today honored K9 Rocco, commending his dedication and unwavering service to the Ocean City community as he begins his retirement on November 1, 2023.
Born in Poland on December 1, 2014, K9 Rocco was trained and later certified by the North American Police Work Dog Association in both patrol and narcotics detection. Partnered with Corporal Sean McHugh since March 2016, the duo initiated their collaboration at Shallow Creek Kennels for primary training.
For the past 7.5 years, K9 Rocco faithfully served the residents and visitors of Ocean City. His contributions include significant narcotics and weapons seizures, three patrol apprehensions, and over 100 arrests. Never absent from duty, K9 Rocco consistently remained alert and responsive, assisting Corporal McHugh in various capacities. Additionally, he played a role in community outreach, participating in demonstrations for schools and neighborhood watch events over his tenure.
Post-retirement, K9 Rocco looks forward to a more relaxed pace, becoming the beloved family pet of Corporal McHugh and his household. His absence as a Police Canine Officer will undoubtedly be felt within the department.
Meanwhile, Corporal McHugh, who has expressed gratitude for his years as a Police Canine Handler with the Ocean City Police Department, will transition to a first-line supervisory role in the Patrol Division.
