Maryland School Custodian Arrested on Multiple Counts of Soliciting Children

BERLIN, MD – The Delaware State Police have taken into custody Wayne Long, a 66-year-old resident of Berlin, Maryland, on charges related to the sexual solicitation of underage children. The arrest follows an intensive investigation, with detectives now reaching out to the public to identify potential additional victims, particularly in the Sussex County region.

The inquiry began on October 19, 2023, when the Youth Aid Detectives of Delaware State Police Troop 4 were alerted about Long allegedly seeking explicit images from multiple underage boys via Snapchat. In exchange for these images, he offered rides to and from the beach in Sussex County.

Two victims, targeted multiple times by Long during the past summer months, have been identified so far.

Long, previously employed as a custodian at the Indian River School District, is known to support various athletic teams, including those at Sussex Central High School.

His presence has also been noted at sports and other school-related events in different local districts. Given this, detectives suspect there might be more victims, possibly approached through Snapchat or other social media over recent years.

Upon being summoned to Troop 4 on October 30, 2023, Long faced two felony counts of Sexual Solicitation of a Child Under 18. Following his arraignment at the Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was detained at the Sussex Correctional Institution with an $80,000 cash bond set.
