Newark Police Search for Suspect in Carjacking with 3-Year-Old Child Inside

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a carjacking incident that occurred today, involving a 3-year-old male child left inside the vehicle.

The Newark Police responded to a call at approximately 8:13 a.m. in the 100 block of Wilson Avenue, regarding a stolen 2017 silver-colored Hyundai Sonata with a child inside. An Amber Alert was issued at 9:55 a.m. By 10:30 a.m., police located the vehicle in Jersey City, with the child inside and unharmed.

Surveillance footage captured images of the suspect, who may be female. Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All tips provided through Crime Stopper will be kept confidential and could result in a reward.

The carjacking triggered a statewide amber alert early Tuesday morning.

The quick location of the vehicle and the child has underscored the urgency in identifying the individual responsible for this carjacking. Detectives are actively seeking the public’s assistance in resolving this case promptly.
