FORT WASHINGTON, MD – Prince Georges County Police Homicide Unit detectives have identified and arrested two suspects in relation to a murder that occurred on Saturday in Fort Washington. The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Desmond Thomas of Laurel. The suspects are 54-year-old Kenneth Elwood Smith and 18-year-old Lamont Scott, both of Fort Washington.

On October 27, at around 4:00 pm, officers from the Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to a park in the 2300 block of Old Fort Road following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Thomas outside, suffering from multiple gunshot and stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second adult male was also found with a gunshot wound, though his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the fatal assault on Thomas occurred during a dispute. It was further revealed that the suspects and the victim were not acquainted prior to the incident.

Smith is currently facing charges of second-degree murder and related offenses. Scott has been charged with first-degree murder and related offenses.

Both are in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
