COLONIAL BEACH, VA – A 65-year-old Colonial Beach resident, Daniel Raymond Sherwood, has been charged with second-degree murder following the discovery of a deceased individual at his residence on Sunday morning.

The victim, identified as 42-year-old Anthony E. Clarke, suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper side/chest area.

The Westmoreland County Sheriff, C.O. Balderson, stated that deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Longfield Road at approximately 8 a.m. after receiving a report of a potential gunshot victim.

Clarke was found dead inside the home. A Braztech .357-caliber Magnum revolver, confirmed as the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene. Sherwood, still present in the home, was apprehended.

Preliminary findings indicate that Clarke and Sherwood were involved in a verbal dispute, potentially linked to drugs. After an initial argument, Clarke left but soon returned, leading to the escalation and fatal gunshot.
