HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A New Jersey State Trooper sustained critical injuries in a late-night multi-vehicle collision on the Atlantic City Expressway on Friday.

According to New Jersey State Police, multiple troopers were conducting a vehicle stop on a Chevrolet Cobalt in the left shoulder lane of the eastbound Atlantic City Expressway near Hamilton Township in Atlantic County just before 11:30 p.m. A Hyundai Tuscon, traveling in the left lane, failed to change lanes and collided with the rear passenger side of an unoccupied state trooper’s car.

The driver of the Hyundai lost control, causing the car to spin and hit another unoccupied state trooper’s car. The force of this collision propelled the second trooper’s car forward, causing it to rotate and collide with the back of the unoccupied Chevrolet Cobalt.

At the time of the collision, a trooper was standing in the driver’s seat doorway of the second state trooper’s car. The trooper was thrown into the grass on the highway median due to the impact. Authorities have not yet released details about the condition of the driver of the Hyundai or any additional injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
