WASHINGTON, D.C. – Newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson commenced his role by leading the House in reaffirming support for Israel against attacks.

Rep. Chris Smith congratulated Johnson, highlighting his experience and commitment to key Republican principles including fiscal responsibility and border security.

Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has served as Vice Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and the Republican Conference. He brings nearly two decades of experience as an attorney, during which he contributed to landmark legislation at state and local levels.

The son of a disabled firefighter, Johnson’s background in service and sacrifice has been cited as shaping his political approach. On his first day as Speaker, the House endorsed a resolution supporting Israel in its defense against aggression.

Johnson’s agenda also focuses on economic growth, national security, and government accountability. With his tenure as Speaker now underway, Johnson aims to unite House Republicans in tackling these and other pressing issues.
