RICHMOND, VA — Keith Travers, 37, pleaded guilty to carjacking, according to court records.

On August 6, 2022, Travers and an accomplice met a victim at Southside Plaza with the pretense of selling a catalytic converter. After realizing there were no catalytic converters, the victim attempted to leave, prompting Travers to point a gun at the victim’s head.

The victim surrendered his wallet, containing between $5,000 and $6,000, car keys, and a work phone to the assailants.

Richmond Police officers tried to arrest Travers on August 19, 2022. Travers led police on a nearly hour-long chase before abandoning his car and fleeing on foot. During the chase, Travers discarded a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol, later confirmed to be the same weapon used in the carjacking.

Travers is set to be sentenced on March 20, 2024. He faces up to 15 years in federal prison. A federal district court judge will determine the final sentence.
