LANHAM, MD — The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is seeking the community’s help in locating a driver and car involved in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run. The incident claimed the life of 28-year-old Franklin Membreno Mendez of New Carrollton.

At around 4:05 a.m. on October 21, officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of Ardwick Ardmore Road for a welfare check. Mendez was found deceased on the side of the road with trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest that Mendez had been in a minor, unrelated collision about two miles away in the 8900 block of Annapolis Road.

It is believed that after exiting his car following that collision, Mendez was hit by another vehicle. He became lodged in that vehicle’s windshield. The driver then proceeded to Ardwick Ardmore Road, left Mendez on the side of the road, and fled the scene.

The suspected vehicle is a 2011-2017 gray Honda Civic, distinguishable by a large white decal on the top of its back window. The car is likely to have damage to the passenger side front bumper and fender, as well as a hole in the windshield.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on this case to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at 301-731-4422.
